Leicester’s Crime rates in 2017

Leicester is the most dangerous city in Leicestershire, and is among the top 10 most dangerous overall out of Leicestershire’s 230 towns, villages, and cities. The overall crime rate in Leicester in 2022 was 128 crimes per 1,000 people. This compares poorly to Leicestershire’s overall crime rate, coming in 42% higher than the Leicestershire rate of 90 per 1,000 residents. For England, Wales, and Northern Ireland as a whole, Leicester is among the top 10 most dangerous cities, and the 376th most dangerous location out of all towns, cities, and villages.

The most common crimes in Leicester are violence and sexual offences, with 21,815 offences during 2022, giving a crime rate of 52. This is 7% higher than 2021’s figure of 20,440 offences and a difference of 3.31 from 2021’s crime rate of 49. Leicester’s least common crime is robbery, with 563 offences recorded in 2022, an increase of 17% from 2021’s figure of 482 crimes.
